Realspeak English/Spanish Installer

compiled and distributed by Noah Carver
64-bit installer by Thomas Ward

Introduction:
A few years ago Freedom Scientific, the makers of Jaws, Openbook, and Magic, shipped a disc containing a number of Sapi 5 compatible Realspeak voices along with their products. Unlike their new Realspeak Direct voices these versions of the Realspeak voices can be used with third-party Sapi compatible programs including: games, other screen readers, and programs such as TextAloud. This ZIP file contains the necessary voice data as well as two installers.

Requirements:
Before starting the installation, you will need to check what type of system you are using. To do this, follow these steps. On Windows XP press control+escape to open the start menu and press enter on the My Computer option. On Windows Vista or Windows 7 press control+escape, tab to the folder pane, and down arrow to Computer and press Enter. You should be focused on the OS (C:) drive and can press SPACEBAR to select it, and then ENTER to display the contents on the root of the C drive. Press the letter P until you reach the "Program Files" folder, and then press P once more. If you have 64-bit Windows, you have two folders: one named "Program Files" and another named "Program Files (x86)." If you have 32-bit Windows, you only have one folder named "Program Files." Please take note of this, as it will be important later.

Installation:
Depending on whether your system is 32-bit or 64-bit you will want to run one of two installers. If your system is 32-bit, please run the "RealSpeakSoloX86.msi" file. Likewise, if your system is 64-bit, run the "RealSpeakSoloX64.msi" file.

Configuration for 64-bit Machines:
Note: This only applies to 64-bit machines.
Once installed you may need to configure the default Sapi voice for your system. Since Windows Vista and Windows 7 only displays 64-bit compatible voices in the control panel you will need to configure them using the 32-bit control panel which can be accessed by typing
"C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl"
into the Run dialog and then press Enter. If you wanted Tom to be your default voice for games, TextAloud, NVDA, and other applications select Tom from the list of available 32-bit Sapi voices, and press Enter on the Apply button. At this point, your Realspeak voices are setup and ready to go.
